Commercial flights, ferry transport in Greece will grind to a halt on February 28
Strike! Major Greek airlines including Aegean and Sky Express are canceling flights on February 28, the day when Hellenic Air Traffic Controllers Union will participate in a 24-hour general strike. It has been called by the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) and will take place from 00:01 to 24:00 local time.
This is a nationwide protest to mark the second anniversary of the Tempi railway disaster, and it will also impact sectors beyond aviation. Train services will be disrupted. Ferries will remain docked and taxi drivers will strike from 10am to 1pm.
The Athens Metro will not be impacted.
We can report that Aegean is adding extra flights and seats before and after the strike, but that also, flights on February 27 and March 1 may also be affected.
No word yet on whether international airlines will be impacted by the strike, but check with your airline. Expect delays.
