Is This the Best Tableside View in Greece?
The depth of superficiality of so many travelers today never ceases to amaze.
We could never understand the mentality of the kind of people who would watch drivel like Game of Thrones and then go and book a trip to Dubrovnik because some of it was filmed there. Sadly, it does appear that there really are a lot of people with that much time and money on their hands. The kinds of people that need a season of White Lotus to pique their interest in Sicily.
Because Sicily had nothing to offer before? The Godfather or ruins of Agrigento weren’t good enough? The problem is that this shallow generation is so undereducated they have to look both of those things up.
The crisis is called overtourism, which is what happens when the hordes of Instagrammers descend like locusts on a place and beat the authenticity right out of it. Two cheers for sustainability, eh?
We’re waiting for the next dumb TV show — and we come from the hills around Hollywood, where the ghost of Garbo is long gone — to drop its tentacles on the next “undiscovered” Mediterranean island, once they get through with the autocratic basketcase that is Thailand.
