It's official: this is the best burger in Mykonos
Greek salad? Okay, but the locals also love a good hamburger...and this one's mmm
Let’s see, the weather is still terrible just about everywhere, there’s talk of a (pointless) ground invasion in Iran, and the TSA lines are making you want to rent an RV and just go to Yellowstone…so it’s probably too early to start dreaming about Mykonos?
Hell, no.
Dream now, sink your teeth into a bodacious Mykonos hamburger later.
We first discovered Smash Tag burgers in Athens, but Mykonos is where the burger joint calls home (and apparently Italy prior to that). Anyway: yum.
The burgers are, in their own words, “crafted with passion and precision, using the freshest ingredients and unique flavor combinations. From classic favorites to innovative creations, each burger is a testament to our commitment to quality and taste. Indulge in juicy patties, perfectly toasted buns, and a symphony of toppings that redefine deliciousness.”
Smash Tag had me at the promise of a “crispy bacon” topping. I cannot tell you how many times I have ordered bacon in a European restaurant only to find something rubbery and undercooked on plate. Honestly, did an entire Continent forget that cooking actually involves something called heat?
I think this culinary disaster began in England, actually, with their whole “streaky bacon” debacle-thing. But I’ve been let down in Paris and Athens too. But Smash Tag promised it “crispy” and as Zeus is my witness, crispy it was.
That crispy bacon paired well with “sweet mayonnaise” and the juicy burger itself. And the bun, soft but not too thick. Pickles, onion, also mmm.
The fries though, still not as good as classic Micky D’s.
Anyway, as for Mykonos, sophisticated seaside dining has its place on the party island but after a crowded ferry from Piraeus you’re going to work up an appetite for them meats. And not even Jeff Bezos’ yacht has these.
So plan to make yours a Smash Tag burger — and tell ‘em you read about it on the Greek Column.
