SANITIZED & SEALED: Meet the Mykonos hotel that's changing the world, one proudly sanitized room at a time
Making a bodacious private beach that much more bodacious
The first rule about Mykonos is that if you can remember everything you did in Mykonos last summer you probably didn’t have a very good time in Mykonos last summer (or whenever). Now that that’s out of the way…the second rule is that it’s a given the hotels in Mykonos are among the sexiest and best in the world, so when they innovate, other hotels had better pay attention.
The first thing I noticed about my room at The Wild by Interni—the ONLY hotel in Mykonos with a private beach and boy do those things come in handy—was that it had been Sanitized and Sealed. Don’t believe me? I’ve got proof, look at this:
Frankly, I was relieved. The Wild was the first hotel I had stayed at since the start of the Chinese-sourced pandemic (#BoycottChina) and obviously concerns about cleanliness were paramount. The seal on the door would be broken only by me, meaning that the only person in the room immediately prior to me and my luggage would have been a member of the housekeeping staff. Which is as it should be, right?
Most of the big corporate hotel chains, your Hiltons, your Hyatts, your IHGs etc are now actively engaging in what amounts to bogus cleanliness theater—just because a hotel slaps a “covid protocol” on their website doesn’t mean they are actually doing anything different, and usually they aren’t. Or they aren’t doing enough. Anyone ventilating the room? Spraying Lysol on the light switches? Wiping down the remote control? Allowing more time in between check-ins even at peak times? If they aren’t doing all of those things and more, then they are failing you and probably lying too.
So here, once I broke the seal and entered the room, I opened the big sliding glass door as a matter of course to ventilate the room, not that it really needed it, but you know, sea breeze and all that jazz. But—wait—imagine you are in a hotel of lesser glam quotient and the windows are sealed shut and all you have to go on is a probably spurious “clean pledge” that came out of some ridiculous marketing meeting. No way: until there’s a cure or a vaccine that lasts longer than Madonna’s latest hairstyle, your health is more at stake when you’re traveling than at almost any other time.
The Wild has gone the extra mile here. This doubtless costs the hotel more money, a cost which is then passed along to you, the guest. But you know what? This shows that the management actually cares. They value your business and aren’t taking you for granted. This is a trailblazing action—the hotel world ought to be taking notes.

We read on some press release-style blog that a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination card is a prerequisite to stay at any of the Myconian Collection’s well-regarded hotels—but no, we haven’t been able to confirm this independently.
Also, our opinion is that Mykonos’s Elias Beach, to which at least one of Myconian’s properties is roughly adjacent, was the place circa 2012, but these days? Good luck finding a parking spot! And…buses?! Getting just a wee bit crowded ‘round here, ya see?
