Where to find Athens' best swim holes
Well, you could call them coves, but we're going old school here
If there are four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire, well — there are almost as many swimming holes the intrepid wanderer might find along the Attica coast — which is to say the capital region that surrounds Athens.
Some of these are well-known and appear in guidebooks or websites, others the locals prefer to keep to themselves, some are (seemingly) blocked by hotels or fancy villas, and some you can only get to on a boat.
Suffice to say that Athens is a crowded city, and when whether it’s a proper beach or swimming cove you’re not going to be alone. But when it’s pushing 100°F where would you rather be, standing in line at the grocery store or plunging into the blue?
Now, about where to specifically find the best swimming holes, well, they are mainly to the south. Sometimes to the north. Often to the east. Or is west best?
This is a developing story.
